Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
